Appointment Type: Spot Check

img

A spot check is a quick appointment type (around 15 minutes) suitable for those with a single spot of concern (new or existing).

If you have noticed a new mole, or an existing mole that has changed in shape, size or colour, that does not necessarily mean that it is skin cancer. But it is a good prompt to get it checked by a qualified skin cancer doctor.

Our doctors can use both demoscopy and digital photography to examine the mole more closely than with the naked eye. They can also then track that mole over time.

By the way, in the photo above:

  • Left: Although this looks nasty, it is in fact a harmless lesion
  • Middle: This potentially fatal melanoma was diagnosed by our high-resolution serial photography
  • Right: Believe it or not, this is a harmless haemangioma

Medicare rebate amount is the minimum expected Medicare rebate for patients who have not reached the safety net. There is not Medicare rebate for TBP, but many Private Health funds will cover TBP/Mole Mapping. For existing patients (review appointments) the fees depend on the length of appointment required. However, the out-of-pocket cost is almost the same, because of the higher Medicare rebate for longer appointments.
